Share personally on your own terms · S6.6

Choose how much to share

You want support but feel unsure about opening up.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Choose a person and consider how they have responded to boundaries and private information before.
  2. Decide what you are comfortable sharing and what you want to keep private.
  3. Ask for the kind of response you need: 'Could you listen without advice?' You may pause or stop the conversation.

An example

I can say I had a difficult day without describing the event.

Reflect

Did the amount you shared fit your comfort and the person's response?

Next time

Use what you learned to decide whether to share more, less, or with someone else.
