Say no and define a boundary · S8.4

Explain what a boundary protects

You want to understand your own reason for a limit without making it sound positive for everyone.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Write the limit you are considering.
  2. Name what it protects, such as time, privacy, access, rest, or a commitment.
  3. Choose how much of that reason you want to share. Write a short statement that does not require a long defense.

An example

I keep evenings free for family responsibilities, so I cannot take this meeting time.

Reflect

Is the reason clear to you even if the other person dislikes the limit?

Next time

You can restate the limit without finding gratitude or a benefit in the conflict.
