Understand a hesitation before choosing a values action

You are hesitating about an action connected to something important.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Name the action and the concern behind the hesitation.
  2. Consider whether the concern calls for information, a smaller step, support, a boundary, or a different decision.
  3. Choose an action that respects both the value and the concern, including waiting if that fits.

An example

I care about helping, but I do not understand the commitment. I can ask for the details before agreeing.

Reflect

Did the choice address the concern instead of simply overruling it?

Next time

Hesitation can contain useful information; do not assume every delay is avoidance to defeat.
