Check fear, facts and missing information · D2.18

Acknowledge fear and check what it calls for

You feel afraid and need to decide what the situation requires.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Name what you are afraid may happen and what you actually know about the situation.
  2. Distinguish practical safety needs, missing information, and an ordinary uncertainty you may choose to tolerate.
  3. Choose an appropriate next step, including leaving, checking information, or asking for support; fear is not proof that you should push forward.

An example

I am uneasy about an unfamiliar meeting place. I can confirm the details and choose an arrangement I am comfortable with.

Reflect

What information or support was needed before deciding?

Next time

Use the situation's facts rather than a rule that fear always means growth.
