Make room for feelings without judgment · D2.10
Allow a feeling while choosing a small action
You are waiting to feel completely ready before an ordinary action you want to take.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Name the action and the feeling that is present, without treating the feeling as an obstacle you must remove.
- Decide whether the action is appropriate and manageable under current circumstances.
- If you choose to proceed, take a small version while allowing the feeling to remain; changing your mind is allowed.
An example
I feel awkward saying thank you, and I can still send a brief sincere message if I want to.
Reflect
Was the action a willing choice or something you felt pressured to endure?
Next time
Adjust the step to preserve choice rather than increasing difficulty automatically.
