Make room for feelings without judgment · S13.14

Include a feeling in your self-description without making it everything

A difficult feeling is dominating how you describe yourself.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Name the current feeling and the situation around it.
  2. Add a role, interest, preference, or relationship that remains part of your life.
  3. Choose how much of each you want to include when speaking about yourself.

An example

I am discouraged about work, and I am also someone who enjoys making things and helping my community.

Reflect

Does the description leave space for more than the current feeling?

Next time

Change the emphasis when your experience changes.
