Clarify a choice or an ambiguous message · S11.14

Ask for relational clarification once

Uncertainty about another person's meaning is affecting an interaction.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Identify the specific statement or event you did not understand.
  2. Ask a direct, respectful question about that point.
  3. Use the answer alongside observed behavior, and allow unresolved uncertainty where an answer is unavailable.

An example

When you said 'later,' did you mean this evening or another day?

Reflect

Did the question resolve a concrete ambiguity?

Next time

Choose your next action from the information available rather than seeking a guarantee about the whole relationship.
