Share personally on your own terms · D5.19

Choose how much to share

You are considering sharing a feeling and want to make that choice deliberately.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Name what you hope sharing would make possible and what you want to keep private.
  2. Consider the person, setting, and their response to previous limits or disclosures.
  3. Choose a small amount to share, ask whether they can listen, or decide not to share now.

An example

I want to say I’m disappointed, but I do not want to explain the whole history.

Reflect

Did the choice respect your privacy and the relationship as it actually is?

Next time

Disclosure is not a test of courage, authenticity, or closeness.
