Adapt or restart a routine · S3.15

Make the physical steps of a routine workable

The arrangement of objects or movements makes a repeated task awkward.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Walk through the task in your mind or try one part, noticing where reaching, carrying, handling, or positioning creates difficulty.
  2. Choose one practical adjustment, such as moving an object closer or dividing a load. Ask for appropriate help if needed.
  3. Try the adjusted part only as comfortably as you can and decide whether to keep it.

An example

The basket is hard to carry. I can move a few items at a time or ask for help.

Reflect

Did the adjustment reduce the practical difficulty?

Next time

Keep adapting the task to your access needs rather than expecting your body to fit the routine.
