Orient yourself before returning to a task

You have lost your place and want a simple way to reconnect with the workspace.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Look around and locate the material you were using: the page, tool, file, or object.
  2. Notice one stable feature nearby, such as the edge of the table or a color in the room.
  3. Find your last completed step and choose the next small action, or mark your place if you need a break.

An example

The form is open at question four. I’ll put a mark there and decide whether to answer it now.

Reflect

Did orienting to the workspace help you find your place?

Next time

Leave a short place-marker before your next break if useful.
