Return after distraction or interruption · S3.19

Plan how to resume after an interruption

A routine is often interrupted and you want a way to find your place again.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Identify a common interruption and the point where it usually leaves the task.
  2. Choose a place-marker, such as a note, a checked box, or keeping the next item visible.
  3. When you return, use the marker to decide what still needs doing rather than automatically restarting everything.

An example

Before answering the door, I’ll mark the last item checked on the packing list.

Reflect

Did the marker help you resume, or did it need to be clearer?

Next time

Change the marker or choose a different stopping point as needed.
