Adapt or restart a routine · D4.10
Try a small variation in an ordinary routine
A routine may be more restrictive than its purpose requires.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Choose a low-stakes rule you would like to examine and identify what it protects or accomplishes.
- Consider one harmless, reversible variation that keeps important requirements intact.
- Try it only if you want to and compare the result with your expectation.
An example
I usually rewrite every note neatly; I can keep one readable rough note and see whether I can still use it.
Reflect
Was the rule useful, optional, or in need of adjustment?
Next time
Keep the variation only if it fits; this is not a test of how flexible you are.
