Ask for feedback and review agreements · S9.16

Ask for usable feedback on a conversation

You want to know how your response came across to someone.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Ask whether they are willing to discuss one specific exchange.
  2. Request an observable example: 'Which part sounded dismissive?' Reflect what you heard and check your understanding.
  3. Decide what you accept, what needs clarification, and one change you are willing to try.

An example

When I looked at my phone, did it seem as though I had stopped listening?

Reflect

Did you learn something specific enough to act on?

Next time

Try the change in a future conversation and invite further feedback if appropriate.
