Tell a fuller account of an experience · S1.15
Give a setback a bounded place in your story
One difficult event feels as though it defines everything about you.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Write a brief factual description of the event and its real consequences.
- Add what came before and what remains ongoing outside this event, without searching for a silver lining.
- Write what is unfinished or what you want to decide next; the account does not need an inspiring ending.
An example
This project did not work out. It matters to me, and it is one part of my work history. I have not decided my next direction.
Reflect
Does the account leave room for more than this event?
Next time
Return to it only if new experience changes what you want to say.
