Describe yourself with room to change · S13.11

Give different self-descriptions room

You describe yourself differently in different situations.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Write two descriptions and the contexts in which each seems to fit.
  2. Look for relevant differences in demands, relationships, resources, or preferences.
  3. Write a context-sensitive account rather than deciding one description is your true identity.

An example

I am quiet in large meetings and talkative with close friends.

Reflect

Do the contexts explain some of the difference?

Next time

Keep room for variation without trying to harmonize every aspect of yourself.
