Listen and check understanding · D2.3

Return attention to the conversation in front of you

You notice that your mind has wandered while someone is speaking.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Notice the distraction without pretending you heard what you missed.
  2. Return to the speaker or accessible communication channel and identify the point you last understood.
  3. Ask for a repetition or clarification if needed, then summarize the part you heard.

An example

I lost the last part for a moment. Could you repeat what you need from me?

Reflect

Did acknowledging the gap make understanding easier?

Next time

Reduce one avoidable distraction before the next conversation if useful.
