Prepare or review a boundary conversation · S9.12

Set a boundary around a painful topic

A conversation touches on an experience you do not want to discuss.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Decide the limit you want right now: no details, a different topic, a pause, or no conversation.
  2. State it briefly without needing to explain the experience.
  3. Observe whether the limit is respected and choose your next step, including ending the exchange or seeking other support.

An example

I do not want to go into that. We can talk about what I need today.

Reflect

Did your wording communicate the limit you intended?

Next time

Change the boundary when you choose, not because someone demands a fuller account.
