State a need or make a request · D3.9

Build a clear request with room to negotiate

You need to ask someone for a specific change.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Describe the situation and its effect on you without adding accusations.
  2. State the change you want and explain the practical reason it would help.
  3. Stay with the main request, hear their response, and negotiate the parts you are willing to adjust.

An example

When the schedule changes without notice, I cannot plan travel. Could you message me when a change is confirmed?

Reflect

Was your request specific enough to answer?

Next time

Rehearse a shorter version if the main request gets lost in explanation.
