Adjust position, space or sensory demands · S7.15

Communicate a sensory accommodation

A sensory feature of a setting is making participation harder.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Identify the feature you want changed without needing to explain its history.
  2. Request a practical adjustment, such as lower sound, different lighting, more space, or another format.
  3. Choose whether to continue, pause, or use another setting if the adjustment is unavailable.

An example

Could we move to a quieter room? I do not want to discuss why right now.

Reflect

Was the accommodation request specific enough to act on?

Next time

Keep useful preference wording for future settings.
