Adjust position, space or sensory demands · S4.5

Identify a sensory preference

You want to understand which ordinary surroundings are comfortable for you.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Choose one feature to consider: sound, light, texture, scent, or visual activity.
  2. Describe what you prefer and what you would rather reduce.
  3. Make one available adjustment or state the preference to someone affected.

An example

I prefer less background sound while reading, so I ask whether the music can be lowered.

Reflect

Did the adjustment address the feature you identified?

Next time

Keep a useful preference note without assuming it is the same every day.
