Turn a value into a practical action · S5.10

Link today’s action to a longer aim

You want to know whether a small task contributes to a goal you still care about.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. State the longer aim and why it matters to you now.
  2. Identify a small action that would contribute, and distinguish it from tasks that only feel urgent.
  3. Decide whether to do, schedule, delegate, or drop the action in light of your actual capacity.

An example

I want to finish the application. Finding the required document contributes more today than redesigning my notes.

Reflect

Was the link between action and aim clear, or has the aim changed?

Next time

Review the aim periodically rather than treating every day as a progress test.
