Choose priorities and plan time · S2.18

Pause and reassess a pressured task

You notice a task feels pressured and want to decide what is needed next.

Everyday practice

Try these steps

  1. Stop at a safe point and name what is adding pressure: a deadline, uncertainty, interruptions, workload, or something else.
  2. Check what is actually required next and what can be postponed, clarified, shared, or reduced.
  3. Choose one adjustment or request. If nothing can change immediately, decide on a manageable stopping point and when to seek help.

An example

Three requests arrived together. I’ll ask which needs to be first rather than try all three at once.

Reflect

Did the adjustment change the demand, or is more support needed?

Next time

Use the pressure information to revise the workload rather than require yourself to become calm.
