Pause before choosing an action · D9.18
Prepare a deliberate response to a recurring situation
You know an ordinary situation often prompts a reply you later want to change.
Everyday practice
Try these steps
- Identify the situation and the response you would prefer to choose.
- Write a short cue and a concrete alternative response.
- Try the alternative when appropriate and review the practical result.
An example
When a new request arrives, I will check my workload before saying yes.
Reflect
Did the alternative fit the actual situation?
Next time
Revise the response rather than claiming a brain pathway has strengthened.
